On June 12, 2008, I joined this blogging world. I have to say, I’ve absolutely loved having this blog. It has been beneficial in so many ways and sometimes even therapeutic for me. It has been a method of scrap booking for our kids without being crafty (because I’m not), journaling my random thoughts, keeping track of recipes, sharing about our running & races, and allowing others to share in our life experiences right along with us.

Ryan started a blog about a year ago as well. Just recently, we determined that it would make complete sense to combine our blogs since the same people that read my blog most likely read his blog too. And, a lot of the time, we have the same updates or experiences to share. So, after much work…compiling, designing, coding, etc (all done by Ryan I should add), we are please to announce OUR new blog…

Addi & Kam Updates

Our two precious punkins are just developing, learning, and growing up so fast…it feels like if I blink too fast, they will be teenagers way  too soon!

Addi is four going on thirty. She talks non-stop. I mean like all the time. Seriously. She is so curious and is going through the “why?” phase. She needs explanation on just about everything. You can tell her brain is going 90 to nothing and she is soaking up so much right now. Quite the little thinker that one. She’s also very sweet and tender-hearted. She plays well with her friends, it’s neat to watch how considerate she is. Playing with her sister? Well, that’s a different story. Her & Kam fight pretty much every day several times a day. But that’s normal, right? Addi got her first “report card” at school last week and is doing very well…”proficient” in almost every category. Smarty pants! She’s almost half way through her year of preschool. I tear up just thinking about her going to that big, ginormous building of a place called Kindergarden next year! Don’t know if this momma is ready for all that.

Kamryn is not even 3 yet, which we often forget. She is just a little bit shorter than Addi, but already has surpassed her in shoe size. No doubt, she will be tall like her Daddy. She has quite the personality. Very funny and independent. And brave! When we go play at playgrounds, she heads straight to the tallest, largest slide! She likes to wear the same purple dress-up dress every day and always asks to dance with Daddy. Her favorite word is “because” and she tries to use it in every sentence she says. She is fully potty trained now…well, sort of. She still wears a pull-up at night and we are working hard at trying to eliminate that altogether. She loves chewing gum – it has become a good form of bribery for us. She is still very shy when she meets someone new and it takes a while for her to warm up to them.

It has been such a joy to be home with them and having more time with them. I am LOVING it. I thank God everyday for the blessing of my new job. I’ll leave you with a few pics from the last several weeks.

Big changes taking place!

God is amazing. He has truly blown us away over the past few weeks, as we have seen pure evidence of His hand at work in our lives regarding a very specific situation. For those of you who haven’t heard this story, here you go…

About a month ago, I started praying for clarity regarding my job situation. (That is a long story in and of itself, I won’t bore you with details.) That very same week that we began to pray that God would reveal whether I should stay or go, He made it extremely clear to me that it was time to look for something else.

So, Ryan and I started talking about the possibilities of what’s next. We weren’t sure what was going to happen or how it was going to work – but we knew full well that God would provide. One of the options we discussed included me staying home with the girls and maybe working part-time or something. The more we discussed this particular option, the more excited we got! Addi starts school next year and the thought of spending more time with her, and with sweet Kam, before that happens thrilled my heart. They are at such a fun age! This is something we have always wanted, but its never worked out or been feasible. So, we started praying specifically for God to open just the right door in order to allow that to happen. He knows our financial needs and the debt we are working hard to payoff. We decided I would stay at my current job until that something else came along.

I started to keep my eyes open and talk to some people, trying to be proactive. Then one day last week, one of my favorite clients that I’ve been working with for over a year now, called up to the office to talk about a billboard design we were working on for him. He then proceeds to tell me all about this new marketing job he would like to hire for at his company. Someone who would do all marketing, public relations, event planning, etc. for him and mostly…(are you ready for this?)…WORK FROM HOME. What? Are you kidding me? He was telling me about it in case we knew of anyone interested, not knowing that I would be! So, I went straight home during lunch that day and emailed him expressing my interest. One thing led to another – I met with him and his wife to discuss and that next Monday, he called and offered me the job! I start October 5th as the Director of Marketing at Brown’s Landing and am super pumped. It’s more than I expected on so many levels. What a blessing, straight from the Lord.

Next step was finding a 2 day preschool to transfer the girls to. Um, can you say HUGE savings? Going from full-time daycare to a 2 day preschool makes a major, positive impact on the budget. Even though I’ll mostly be working from home, there will be a couple of days that I’ll need to be out and about, meetings, luncheons, etc – stuff that would be easier…well, kid-less. Plus, we want to keep them in a structured learning environment. Wouldn’t you know that one of our friends in our community group – his mom owns one of the best preschools in town! And sure enough, she had spots for BOTH girls. Ryan and I went and toured the place, got the paperwork, met the teachers, and enrolled them. Couldn’t have been any easier. Again, another blessing straight from the Lord.

We are very humbled and amazed at how God orchestrated all of this down to every single detail. We also appreciate the prayers that were lifted up on our behalf. He has once again, blown us away! He always provides and we are thankful. I don’t know why I ever doubt – EVERYTHING is in His hands.

And I am stoked to spend even more time with these two cuties!!!

Fall-tastic

As I ran at the trails this past Sunday morning, I noticed that a few leaves had already fallen off the trees. It made me smile…Fall is just around the corner people and I can not wait! I heart Fall. I do believe its my favorite time of year. The smells, the colors, the temperatures, the holidays, football, food, races…I love it all! The changing of the seasons always reminds me of how big God is – and how extremely creative He is. The ultimate artist, for sure!

We have a lot of stuff going on this upcoming season. Good stuff. The Dixon iCal is getting filled up! The next few months emotionally will be tough for my family – with Dad’s birthday coming up, my parent’s anniversary, the holidays without him, and running without him in races we’ve all done together in the past. Everything that is a “first without him” is tough. Definitely will be a hard season, as it has been a hard year. Incredibly grateful to have so many wonderful memories with him. And I am thankful we have some good stuff going on – and things to look forward to. Dad would want us to make the most of this beautiful season (he loved Fall too) and live life to the fullest – so I will try to do just that!

1. Going to Lubbock Labor Weekend to see old friends (leaving tomorrow actually – yay)

2. Joining a new downtown Women’s Bible study group

3. Attending a friends wedding in Dallas – a night away for me & Ryan!

4. Celebrating both of my brother’s, my sister’s, Ryan’s, and Kam’s birthdays

5. Running in 3 half marathons in 3 consecutive months & the Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving Day

6. Ryan’s brother Ross coming to Texas and our camping trip to Beaver’s Bend

7. Trip to Boston & New Hampshire

8. Thanksgiving & Christmas

9. CRUISE

10. Several baby showers for dear friends

Some Friday updates for you.

*Kamryn is nearly potty trained! She does pretty well all day wearing big girl panties. Still working on the evening hours, but we are getting there. Totally helps that the school she goes to focuses on this in her current class! Also, she had her well-check at the doc recently and is a healthy, growing girl…in the 90% percentile on height and weight. Gonna be tall like Ryan, no doubt! The pic above is her at the doctor’s office…she used to be A LOT smaller on that table. Such a sweethearted, sensitive child…she melts our hearts.

*Addi’s coloring skills are getting to be SO good! She is really starting to stay within the lines more and becoming quite the artist. She starts preschool in a couple of weeks (tear). Which means she’ll start Kindergarten next year…what?! She is such a unique child – incredibly smart, a perfectionist, and always thinking. She definitely keeps us all in line! I can’t believe both my babies are growing up so fast!

*I’m going to the “Girls Night In” Conference at our church this evening and am pumped about it. Hoping to really absorb a lot and and maybe experience a sense of peace during this chaotic time. To be honest, over past several weeks…well since June 4th really, I haven’t prayed much and I haven’t read my Bible (so yes, my “read the Bible in one year plan” is slacking). I don’t feel angry at God nor do I feel distant from God…I just feel like during this period of grief, I am simply sitting in his lap while I hurt. Like a child does after they get a boo boo. And I’m fairly certain God is OK with that.

*Running has been H-A-R-D lately. This heat mixed with this humidity is killer. Definitely starting to yearn for Fall temps. But I will say, even though its not the most enjoyable thing right now, we are doing it. Ryan and I alternate days and get ‘er done. We are officially training now…speed work, long runs on the weekends, tempo runs, the works. We have a goal to run 3 half marathons this Fall – one in October, one in November, and one in December. That counts as a full, right?

*Our cruise is in 18 weeks and counting…

*Ryan and I are seriously pondering about some ministry ideas & opportunities. We feel like God is stirring in us in some specific areas. We have a huge desire to be “difference makers” (as my Dad would say) here in Tyler, a city that we are really growing to love more and more.

Running Update

Ok, I have to admit running has taken a backseat over the past few weeks. Since the Capitol 10K in Austin, there has not been any kind of “routine” going on. One week, it seemed like we had something going on every night of the week…you know how it goes, life gets crazy!  Then, I was sick for 6 days and running was completely out of the question. Then, I had to recover from being sick.

But, now things are about to change. Over the past few months, we’ve been running in the evenings or on lunch breaks, which sometimes gets difficult when schedules won’t allow enough time. Now that its not pitch black at 6:15 a.m., I can start back to running in the mornings – which is so much better. Knock it out first thing. Plus, before we know it, it will be sweltering summer heat & mornings are really the only option if you want to survive.

I actually started up the morning routine again yesterday. Ran 2 miles at a slow pace…trying to get back into the swing of things & not wanting to over do it since having had bronchitis. Honestly, it was pretty hard & I struggled through it. Hoping my next run will be a little easier and not make me feel like I’m starting over from scratch! Good grief, I’ve been running for about 5 years now – you would think a girl could take a few weeks off & not struggle to do 2 miles!

I’m excited to get back on a legit schedule & start adding in some long runs on the weekends. I read through my latest copy of Runner’s World while I was out sick last week & got all pumped up. As far as upcoming races…Komen Race for the Cure 5K is next weekend here in Tyler. Then, we’re talking about doing Too Hot To Handle in Dallas again in July, which is a 9 miler. I’d love to find another 10K to do – that is such a fun distance for a race! Also, I’m looking at the Chosen: Half Marathon for Adoption in October in New Braunfels. And of course the White Rock Half in Dallas in December.

Updates with Pics

We have been without internet at the house for about a week now. Its amazing how you feel so out of the loop and in the dark when you aren’t online!  But we are hooked back up & back in action now. I’ve been meaning to post some pics for a while, so some of these go back several weeks…but hey, better late than never right? Soooo….here are some recent (and slightly random) happenings around the Dixon household…

> Grandma & Grandaddy Dixon sent a box full of goodies for Valentine’s Day….we love boxes that arrive on our doorstep from Virginia! The girls loved their cute cards, pink purses, new bears, toenail polish & girly lotion/bath sets…and Mommy & Daddy enjoyed the chocolates.

> Ryan recently did all of the audio for the musical, Singing in the Rain, up at the college where he works. He hooked us up with some free tickets and I took the girls, along with my friend Cristy & her beautiful twins. It was a lot of fun & all of the girls enjoyed it! Addi was a little disappointed because she thought she was going to be the one dancing & singing on the stage…not just watching from the crowd!

> My cousin Christi has two little boys with birthdays close together. Brody & Mitch had a combined birthday party at McD’s and the girls had a great time playing with their cousins! Plus, they loved the cake & icecream & the kazoos.

> Grandma Clark bought Kam & Addi some new sleeping gowns last weekend and they LOVE to wear their “dresses” to bed. I mean really, I know I’m biased – but does it get any cuter? And notice how they are just about the same height these days.

> With the warmer temperatures & Spring in the air, we have been spending a lot more time outside & loving it! Walking around our neighborhood, taking a jog with the new stroller at the trails, or just hanging out & playing in the yard is a fave around here this time of year. Ryan & I have made a goal for ourselves to become more “neighborly” and really reach out & befriend those living in our area. We moved into this house last Fall and the cold weather hasn’t really allowed for much outdoor time until now…so we’re hoping to intentionally get out & get to know those living around us this Spring. We have a cookout in the works w/our next door neighbors…they have little ones too (and an awesome meat smoker that Ryan secretly hopes to borrow on occasion).

> My little brother Jeff recently moved to Tyler. It is still crazy to me that he is in college now…much less living in his own house! Makes me feel so old. Little Jeffrey is growing up! Here is a pic that my mom took at one of our normal Sunday lunches at their house…us with Jeff & his sweet girlfriend Amy.

> Is anyone else having a hard time believing that its already March? Much less mid-March! 2010 is seriously flying by. On New Year’s Eve, I posted this blog with my 2010 Resolutions. For those of you holding me accountable, here is an update for you…

  • I’m on track with my “Everyday Bible” reading plan. I’ve missed a day here & there, but caught up the next day. I have to be honest…I LOVE IT. Reading every day has become like an addiction for me. I can’t wait to get up & read. It has been SO good for me in my walk with Christ. Even reading through Leviticus. 🙂
  • As for running…we are training now for the upcoming Azalea 10k that is at the end of this month here in Tyler. Also, Ryan, Dad, and I are all registered for the Capitol 10k in Austin in April. Two 10k’s back to back should be a lot of fun! Once I get those under my belt, I’ll start upping my mileage and start preparing for the next half.

On the calendar…

We are officially registered for two 10k races that I’m rather pumped about. At the end of March, the Tyler Azalea 10k and in April, the Austin Capitol 10k. Yay! The one in Tyler begins right across the street from our house at the park & runs through a beautiful historic neighborhood, called the Azalea District. This race is supposed to be very pretty because of the azaleas in full bloom! Ryan & I along w/several of our friends are doing this one. The race in Austin is the largest 10k in Texas. It starts on Congress by the Capitol and ends along Lady Bird Lake. REALLY excited about this one! Ryan, Dad, and I are doing this & I’m hoping some of my Austin family/friends will join us. I need to start training for both of these races very soon…like tomorrow. Hoping for some warmer temperatures so that running outside in the mornings will be an option again! I miss it.

Something else we put on our calendar today that I am totally stoked about….we’re going on a CRUISE!!! This Fall, we are joining Aaron & Jamie along w/a lot of other friends on a Carnival Cruise that leaves from Galveston and stops in Cozumel & Progresso. SWEET! I know its months away, but I already want to go shopping for a new bathing suit & some fun dinner attire. Twill be a blast, no doubt.

Updates

So far 2010 has been super busy and there hasn’t been much time for blogging. January has flown by. So for those of you that read this blog, I apologize for slacking! Here are some random updates on what’s been going on with the Dixon fam…

*I got a promotion at work. Yay! I’m now doing account management and some new business development. Loving it!

*Jen, Ryan & I are attending the Mac Expo in San Francisco in February. Woot!

*We are praying daily for Amos Ivey to come home. And come home SOON.

*Kamryn can count to ten in Spanish. Adorable!

*Addi is obsessed with ballerinas & cheerleaders…she’s definitely a girly girl. I’m thinking about enrolling her into a dance class this summer.

*We are sad that football season is coming to an end, but stoked that the new season of 24 has started! Jack Bauer is my hero.

*Jen is working from home now & loving it…you can keep up with her on her blog here.

*Can’t stop thinking about the people of Haiti and all that they are going through right now.

*Will register soon for the Azalea 10k here in Tyler coming up in March & super excited that one of my best friend’s Ashley is coming down from Lubbock to run it with us!

*If you haven’t checked out Ryan’s blog yet, you should…he has some awesome posts.

*So thankful for our church & our community group. We are establishing some great friendships. Refreshing to be a part of something real & relevant.

*Enjoying running lately while listening to podcasts from The Austin Stone. And I’ve also enjoyed running just to run. Not to train.

*Sad about all of the church fires around East Texas…up to 7 now over the past couple of weeks. Geez. The last one in Tyler was on our street…you can see a pic on Ryan’s blog.

*Tornadoes touched down in Tyler and surrounding areas last night…scary! Crazy times in the world lately.

*Still on track with my daily Bible reading plan – and I have to say, the more I read, the more I want to read. I look forward to it each morning.

Weekend Update with Traci Dixon

Hello friends & family! I don’t know about all of you, but I am happy its Friday. The weather here is awesome today – a cool & crisp Fall day, just the way I like it. I can’t say it enough – I love this time of year!

We have a busy weekend up ahead! Tonight is fajita night at the Dixon casa…another recipe Ryan has mastered. Also, Jen comes home from California this evening, so we’ll be picking her up at the airport…its nice living in a town that has an airport again! Saturday, I SHOULD be running in the Tyler 1/2 marathon, but due to various reasons that I won’t bore you with, we will just be running a long run from our house instead…which is fine by me! But I would like to wish Lauren & Amanda best of luck! Can’t wait to hear how it goes, and hopefully I will be able to join you guys next year. Anyways, back to the weekend…Saturday evening, one of my cousins, Danny, is getting married in Dallas. It will be a blast to see everyone in the fam as we celebrate w/Danny & Kelly! Ryan, the girls, and I are driving up there tomorrow afternoon for the wedding & reception…then, we have to drive back home afterwards – yikes! Pray that the girls will be troopers b/c they will be up WAY past their bedtime. And pray for our patience as we travel in the car with them! Sunday morning, Ryan has a live recording gig. Higher Trails (Joe Wayne Reynold’s band) is performing at a cowboy church here in Tyler and wants to make a live CD. How fun! Ryan is excited to have this unique opportunity & I know he will do a killer job…he always does. Sunday evening, our community group from church is having a cookout at the park which will be a lot of fun. We really look forward to building relationships within this group! So yes, as you can see – its gonna be a busy weekend for the Dixon’s.

I’ll leave you with a few updates/prayer requests…

-Memaw Bade (my Dad’s mother) is still in the hospital, but improving daily. They ran more tests, so we should have more answers hopefully today. Please continue to pray for her & for my Dad as he is at the hospital with her.

-Ryan had his 30th birthday this week! He’s the cutest, most handsomest, bestest husband I could ask for & I continually thank God for blessing me with such a great man & partner to share this life with.

-My poor Mom has a severe sinus/bronchial/ear infection and has been home sick for several days. Pray that she gets better soon…we don’t like it when Grandma’s sick!

-We got to have dinner this week with Gena Smith, which was great. She was in town as she takes courses at a college near Tyler. Its neat to catch up and visit with old friends!

-Kamryn tee tee’d on the potty this morning! It was SO cute. I know…sounds strange to say that someone going tee tee is cute…but you Mom’s know what I’m talking about! Ryan got her out of bed and her diaper was dry – so he just asked her if she wanted to go on the potty and she said “uh huh”, so he took her – and she went! She was so proud of herself…what a doll. Looks like she may be easy to train!

-If you haven’t heard or read it yet – Aaron & Jamie have a VISA appointment next week for Story, their baby girl they are adopting from Haiti! Please continue to pray for them through this process and also for Amos, that things would speed up so they can bring him home soon as well. Also, Jamie if you are reading this – the box of clothes is on its way!

-Texas better stomp OU this weekend. And of course, I’m hopeful for a big win against Nebraska on Saturday – GO RAIDERS!

-I’ve been slacking on the picture taking lately, but I got this the other night w/my iphone and I just love their faces! Gotta love baby bath pics…
